Every small towns has its own traditions. The people are proud of their history and will usually set a date aside each year to celebrate that history. Campbellsville, Ky has a very rich history, especially in the downtown area.
Campbellsville has several historic sites (most in the downtown area) listed in the National Register of Historic Places listings in Kentucky. Many buildings have been around for over a century, and some businesses have been around for almost as long. This documentary will focus on those businesses and how they have survived through the years.
Merchant Tower is the cornerstone of Downtown Campbellsville. Because of it's location and stature on Main Street, it also known as the gateway to Main Street.
The building used to be a 32-room hotel which housed traveling salesmen that sold goods to local merchants. Hence, it was known as the Merchant's Hotel.
Although Merchant Tower is it's own historic landmark, it's also within a historic district called the Campbellsville Commercial Historic District.
Tucker Diamonds and Gold has been in the same building for over 60 years, and continues to prosper as Campbellsville's number one jewelry story.
Chandler's is an office and appliance store, selling printers, fax machines, and office furniture. The building it's in was built in 1880.
The old Chaulk building used to house a hardware store called Chaulk Hardware. It is now the home of Snappy Tomatoes and The Tulip Tree.
Cozy Comforts was originally a movie theater, but is now a clothing/bedding store.
Mitchell's Mens Wear as been in business for two generations. It continues to prosper as one of Campbellsville's top clothing stores.
Owners and former owners of buildings or businesses will be interviewed and will share their histories and give their perspectives about downtown today. The Downtown Renaissance Committee shall also be interviewed regarding what they do and what their plans are for the future.
For a long time the downtown area was slowly dying. This was due to a bad economy and lack of new businesses opening up. This eventually led to the city to take action, and slowly multiple restaurants were brought in to attract locals and to hopefully help out local businesses.
Many photos and possible videos will be shown, and show just how far the downtown are of Campbellsville has come.
This documentary will showcase how the once luxurious downtown area of Campbellsville slowly became a barren area that no one wanted to go to, and how it has started to rise and prosper for the first time in many years.
